Tillamook Cattail Mat

This cattail mat has the curved side down, and up on the patterned side. It is sewn through and creased, leaving raised ridges. The sewing string (weft) is made out of handmade jute and on one end the weaver used commercial jute twine
Short edges are sewn through a braid of about 3 cattail leaves. The second row in untwisted cattail, is overlaid with one beargrass and one black rush. The overall design is 31 double zigzags in darkened rush. They are held in place by going under the weft on the unpattern side and skipping up one cattail.
